The Magic System: Essence Weaving

What is Essence?

Essence is the fabric of magic, woven from the very energy that underlies all existence. Weavers are individuals born with the innate ability to tap into this essence and shape it. They connect to one of three main affinities:

Living, which communicates with life and growth.

Elemental, which commands the raw forces of nature.

Ethereal, which guides mystical and psychic energies.

Within each affinity are finer strands -- specific abilities that a weaver specializes in. For instance, under the Ethereal Affinity, one might find the the umbral strand, which allows for the manipulation of shadows and concealment. The skill of weaving is as diverse as the weavers themselves.

How much Essence can a Weaver have?

Single Essence Weaving: Most weavers specialize in one affinity, and usually have one primary strand within, instead of the ability to weave all of them. Example: elemental weavers can have a focus of fire but not be able to weave water magic. Or living weavers can heal, but are not able to grow plants. Some are able to do multiple, and this is the part that's heavily influenced by training and environment.

Multi-Essence Weaving: Some weavers have an affinity more than one type of essence. These individuals are often considered prodigies, and can be powerful but also more susceptible to the risks of imbalance and political tension.

Universal Essence Weaving: It is nearly unheard of for a weaver to specialize in all affinities and strands. Any who are found to weave all types of essence will be executed on site for the danger they are thought to bring.
